Eirdís Ragnarsdóttir

Icelandic-Chinese painter

I don’t begin with an image in mind. I begin with curiosity. Painting is my way to feel connected, to silence the distractions of the outside world and return to a world within. I am interested in what we cannot see, the place where dreams, emotions, memories and possibilities meet. Through painting, I explore that terrain and invite others to do the same.

She trained in traditional oil painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, studied psychology and fine art at New York University, and apprenticed to master Tong Hongsheng. That mix of clinical curiosity and traditional training runs through the work.
